Basic Driver’s Education

Coastal Area Driving Academy, driver’s education class provides students with the knowledge to be safe, confident drivers and gives them the skills to successfully pass the State of Maine license exam. Students will learn driving techniques, basic vehicle maintenance, how to be a safe drivers, and traffic laws, rules and regulations.

We prefer to keep class sizes small and give every student the attention that he or she needs to be successful. Many other driving schools focus on large numbers of students and simply do not have the resources to adequately train students in a timely manner.

Students must be at least 15 years of age on or before the first day of class orientation.

Maine law requires that any person under 18 years of age must have successfully taken a driver’s education course before becoming a licensed driver. Successful students will receive a temporary learner’s permit upon completion of the course, valid for 60 days. They must apply for a learner’s permit sometime within the first 60 days with the state motor vehicle division and pay a $35.00 fee. To be eligible for a driver’s permit students must successfully complete an approved driver education course, complete a written knowledge examination and a vision screening. This permit allows the individual to operate a vehicle when accompanied by a licensed driver who is at least 20 years of age and has held a valid license for two consecutive years.
